Risk

Small businesses accept a lot of risk every time they hire a new employee. Large organizations take on a much smaller amount.

When you compare the military to a small contracting company you will notice the quality of the individuals in the massive organization are generally not as high because the Army just needs people to fill slots and the employer very rarely experiences the problems created by the individual soldier. Unfortunately this is somewhat incorrect because when you hire on a massive population of poor workers you end up with a bureaucratic organization that wastes copious amounts of energy, money human intelligence and space on behalf of these soldiers.

A small organization, however must ensure that when it hires, it hires the best people it can find or it will fail. The employees must be extremely vested in the organization and they must be willing to put their best out there every day at work. Otherwise they must be let go.

I hope to be a "small business employee" at all times.
